The vision of IRCBC is to bring outstanding biologists and chemists to work side-by-side at the interface of biology and chemistry using cutting-edge technologies and tools in cell biology, neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, proteomics and genomics to address the most interesting and important biological questions that are broadly relevant to neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.
The IRCBC is equipped with world-class research facilities, and the focus of the IRCBC includes the following directions:
(1)We apply molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and other methods to elucidate signaling networks that regulate cell death during neurodegenerative diseases;
(2)We develop and utilize animal models to study molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases as well as neural injury and repair;
(3)We apply genomic approaches to identify novel genes and regulatory mechanisms involved in aging;
(4)We use proteomics and metabolomics means to systematically reveal protein structure and function related to neurodegenerative diseases;
(5)We combine structural biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and other methods to discover and optimize small molecule drug candidates, and in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for treating neurodegenerative diseases.
In the IRCBC, we pursue fundamental scientific advances as well as innovative breakthroughs that can be applicable in preventing,diagnosing and treating neurodegenerative diseases, and we welcome broad and interdisciplinary collaborations both in China and around the world.
